My artist statement reflects the motivation for making my images. I constantly collect images as I see photographic opportunities, placing them into my sources bank, along with my staged tabletop setups as visual arenas. Drawing from these, I montage elements images that when combined create for me a sense of visual and ideational coherence and poetry.
Containers, often books and envelopes, serve as my recurring connotative premise and arena for interactions of visual thoughts and notations.
Memories enclosed in them are inexactly iterative, shifting with the ambient light qualities of time.
Pages cannot always contain thoughts. Our histories invite revision.
Containers as objects are multivalent, meanings shifting with the expectations and framing of the viewer. The relationship between fact and fiction within the pages or confines may be altogether evident to one individual, unfathomable to another, or the very distinction between them seen as irrelevant or non-existent by still others.
These are archival pigment prints from multiple photographic sources.
